Prep-12 all inclusive ZART competition- 'HOME is where the ART is'

Updated: Apr 30, 2020

Good Morning everybody,

ZART is running an art competition for students to enter from home titled ‘HOME is where the ART is’ there are lots of great prizes to be won, details via the link below:

Please note this competition closes on the 7th of May so get your paint brushes and glue ready to avoid missing out!

Here are some additional suggestions to help get you started & hopefully give you a creative edge:

As the theme is ‘ HOME is where the ART Is’

Here are some points to think about to help accumulate ideas & inspiration:

*what can you see around you in your house? Is there anything eye catching you can see in the room that might be a good subject to base you artwork on?

*what are your favourite things that you enjoy doing at home? Do you like playing games? Do you enjoy cooking? Doing activities with your family? Do you like being outside in the garden? Could you make an artwork based on one of these things?

*who is at home with you? Could you include your family in your artwork? Or your pets?

As artworks can be both 2D & 3D here are some extra points to consider:

2D artwork-

*To make an artwork more interesting, think about composition- (artworks look best if the whole area of the page/canvas has something happening/has been considered, not just having one focal point in the middle of a picture or one subject surrounded by a blank space- could you incorporate different elements/ things into your artwork rather than just one subject matter? What is happening in the background of your picture/ painting? How can you make the best use of the whole space of the page?

*When creating a 2D artwork, why not incorporate multiple different materials to make your artwork more eye catching? Could you paint different pieces of paper and cut shapes out to make a collage? Could you add different textures from around the house such as fabrics, wool or materials from outside? Could your main focal point be drawn and then the background be painted or vice versa? Do you have any interesting things things in the kitchen that could create a decorative element?

3D artwork-

As 3D artworks are also an option, here are some possible ideas:

*make a shoe box diorama of your house ($2 shops, Kmart & super markets have lots of materials you could use such as Plasticine to or air dry clay to make figures, scrap making materials to decorate your box etc)

*do you have any recycled materials at home? Could you make an up-cycled sculpture using recycled materials or natural materials from around your garden?

*could you make a cake or food sculpture based on the theme?

Best of luck!
